Designing the name of a new era in autonomous transport.
When Volvo Trucks introduced its first fully autonomous, cabless, and electric transport vehicle, it wasn’t just a technological leap — it was a paradigm shift. The vehicle needed a name that reflected this bold vision.
We named it Vera — a concise, human, and memorable name derived from the concept of the "fifth era" of vehicle autonomy. In this stage, vehicles operate without human intervention, steering wheels, or pedals. "Fifth era" becomes "V era," which naturally leads to Vera.
The name embodies the vehicle's seamless integration into the logistics ecosystem, operating autonomously within ports and logistics centers.
Our contribution extended beyond naming; we developed a visual identity that aligns with Vera's innovative design. The branding emphasizes clarity, trust, and forward-thinking — qualities that resonate with Volvo's core values of safety, quality, and environmental care. Vera represents not just a vehicle but a new chapter in sustainable, autonomous transport. Fifth era, V era, Vera – get it? (for HiQ).
